The oldest and most popular choices for Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman in the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie remain the best options to this day.
Fans’ oldest and most popular choices for Fantastic Four’s leads – John Krasinski and Emily Blunt – remain the best options to this day. For a long time now, there’s been a wish for Krasinski and Blunt to play Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman in the MCU. While Fantastic Four is confirmed to be in the pipeline for Marvel Studios, no actors have been officially cast in any of its roles.
Even before Marvel got the rights to its First Family back, there’s been talk about how these characters could work in the MCU. Considering that all four are icons of the Marvel Universe, the idea of them finally sharing a cinematic world with the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange has predictably enthused the fanbase. Confirmation that the MCU is indeed making Fantastic Four only fueled excitement for its plans. At a present, Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) is attached as director, but all other details are still forthcoming. Regardless, anticipation for what the MCU ultimately delivers is high.

During the long wait for Fantastic Four news, hopes surrounding the MCU’s interpretation of the Fantastic Four hasn’t changed much at all. When the Fox-Disney deal was still being worked out in 2018, the most talked-about candidates for Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman were Krasinski and Blunt. It’s now 2022 and they’re still at the top of the list. Both are regularly featured in fancastings of the team and artwork. Over the years, both actors have acknowledged the high level of interest in them playing the two characters on the big screen.
There’s a good reason why Krasinski and Blunt are still at the forefront of conversations about Fantastic Four’s cast. Since 2018, several talented actors capable of bringing these characters life have come along, but none have emerged as better options for these roles than Krasinski and Blunt (who are actually married in real life). The previous roles, onscreen chemistry, and the looks of both actors make it clear that they have what it takes to pull off Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Looking at their body of work, It’s easy to imagine Blunt pulling off the no-nonsense Invisible Woman and Krasinski playing one of the greatest minds of the MCU.
When casting for big roles, Marvel is of course always aware of who the fans want for these characters, but often end up making some truly unexpected choices. As it was in the case of Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther and so many others, these decisions tend to turn out well. But in some situations, Marvel has been known to take the predictable route. For instance, Marvel went with the most popular choices when they picked Benedict Cumberbatch to play Doctor Strange and when they cast Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. How these situations worked out for them proved that this approach can work wonders for the MCU.
