illwall vs Crystal Palace – LIVE!
It’s FA Cup third round weekend and the draw has thrown up what looks like a cracking London derby this Saturday lunchtime as Premier League Crystal Palace head to The Den to take on Championship Millwall.
New Palace boss Patrick Vieira won the FA Cup five times as a player, including scoring the winning penalty in Arsenal’s 2005 shootout victory over Manchester United.
The Eagles have made a bright start under the Frenchman in the league and look in little danger of being sucked into a relegation battle so a cup run could well be high on the agenda.
Millwall, meanwhile, are similarly mid-table in the Championship, sat in 11th after an inconsistent run ahead of their first home game in more than a month, due to Covid postponements.
You can follow all the action from The Den with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below…
Michael Olise the match-winner for Palace in a brilliant second-half display but Millwall can take heart from the way they matched and even outplayed Palace for long periods. The Championship side finished with a spell of dominance and could easily have taken the game to extra-time – but it’s the Eagles who progress.
A Michael Olise masterclass in the second half and it’s dragged Crystal Palace into the fourth round.
90+1 mins: Five minutes to be added…
87 mins: So close!
Billy Mitchell delivers a superb cross from the right and both Cooper and Boateng are inches away from diverting it home as the ball flashes across the face.
84 mins: Almost another moment of genius from Olise, who carves a pass in behind off the outside of his boot for Gallagher to chase but there’s just too much on it. Long slides out to claim and catches a boot in the face from the hurdling Gallagher for his troubles.
82 mins: There’s a sign of how this game has turned. Jack Butland is now booked for time wasting, having watched his opposite number dally for much of the first half.
80 mins: Time to roll the dice then. A triple change for the home side, including the introduction of big Matt Smith, who we all know loves an FA Cup story.
78 mins: That’s a chance. A bit of a scramble in the Palace box and Afobe keeps it alive, laying back to Bennett, but his low strike doesn’t have the power behind it to beat Butland.
Millwall have regained a foothold after Palace’s blitz at the start of the second half and the Den is deafening again. The question is now whether the hosts have the quality to fashion the chances to level the tie.
72 mins: Into the final 20 minutes then and really Millwall haven’t managed to cause Palace any problems at all since the break. A reminder that there are no replays at this stage this year, so if they do manage level we’ll be headed for extra time.
